Ground Breaking

My newfound fascination with architecture photography led me to my first commissioned work, with the Ground Breaking series marking one of my first projects. I was commissioned by a developer to document the first step building the tallest and thinnest residential skyscraper in the United States. This tower was built on an extremely small site and skilled engineers faced many changes to make it all work. I spent an entire day at the site documenting the process of forging a cavernous hole in the ground that was being prepared for the foundation of the tower. In this series, I focused on the construction workers who did the most dangerous, heroic, and difficult work of literally breaking ground for the new structure.
