Streets of Tokyo

In the spring of 2017, I spent 10 days wandering around and documenting the streets of Tokyo. It was a marathon photo walk from early morning till late at night. There was so much to look at and experience: the city is ancient but futuristic. It has an incredibly beautiful nature, rich culture, and technological progress that has outpaced the rest of the world. Tokyo felt somewhat familiar to New York but very different culturally: polite, insular, eerily restrained. It felt very comfortable for an introvert like me. People there are friendly and helpful, but they never strike up a conversation like it happens in the States. Despite a very dense population, the city is remarkably quiet, and respecting people’s private space felt like a huge priority.
